I watched a video today in one of my classes that really got me thinking about this digital age that we have entered. I have thought about this digital age before, but the video touched me in a way that made me feel motivated to put down my electronics. I feel motivated to stop caring what the world around me thinks and start enjoying life for what it is!
Why do we feel the need to take a picture of every meal we eat? Why do we feel that we must post a picture or video on Instagram or Facebook to prove our worth; to prove that we have a life worth living?

How many beautiful moments have you missed because you were behind a screen trying to record it for social media instead of enjoying that period of time? How many conversations have failed because one person decided that social media was more important than the individuals they were with? This is digital insanity.
Right now, I am challenging myself to put down my phone whenever I am around people. The people I am surrounded by will always be more important than any social media website that I may have the desire to be on at the moment. I challenge all of you to do the same.
Loved this! It really is so sad how many people feel that their self-worth depends on how many likes they get on Instagram or shares they get on Twitter. One of my friends just completely deleted her Instagram because of that reason. She was relying too much on this fake world. Let's face it, nobody's life is really as good as it seems on social media and it is can be really degrading! More people need to follow your example and focus more on the real life people surrounding them (including me haha)!
ReplyDeleteAlyson, that is so spot on, I think we miss so much in our lives because we are preoccupied with things that mean so much less, so that is something I am going to try and work on as well. Thanks for the insight.
ReplyDeleteI am reading this on my phone at the moab diner in Southern Utah. We spent the whole day canyoneering and it was great. When I read your article I thought about when was the last time that I was without my phone for so long. I share your view, it is very refreshing to take a step back and engage with others face to face instead of screen to screen. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! I have thought a lot about how addicted I am to my phone. I am always checking it and looking at what other people post. I need to live more in the real world and put my phone down and do things that actually help me to progress in this life. Thank you for the great reminder.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting about this. I have thought a lot about this and I have a strong belief in this. Phones are an amazing help and great technology but we need to be careful that they don't consume us.
